PakMediaBlog Turns One and Wins Its First Blog Award Title

| May 29, 2010 | 18 Comments

This goes out to all the contributors and fans!

We are extremely excited to inform all of our beloved readers and contributors that PakMediaBlog turned one last week (20th May 2010) and got an award in the ‘Best Ezine’ category in Pakistan’s first ever Blog Awards held at the Regent Plaza in Karachi on 28th May 2010. How’s that as a perfect birthday gift?

We are delighted that a milestone is achieved within the last year and a lot is planned ahead! We would want your support, loyalty and continuous belief in us for this matter, so we can keep delivering the best possible as per our capabilities!

It was not an easy task, and for this matter a lot of hard work was involved of a lot of people who gave their best to make PakMediaBlog what it is today and I would personally like to thank them specifically mentioning them here:

Zaira Rahman – She quit her job to work and launch PakMediaBlog. I can’t forget her contributions to this ever! I remember the time when both of us would try to write 10 to 12 posts a day on marketing campaigns to have enough decent content to drive traffic to the site. And eventually it picked off so well .. that there is no stopping to it till today. She is also the one responsible for inspiring other great writers that I got over the last year!

Sarah Taarik – One of my old friends who took so much time out for this that at times I was freaked out how could she write so much in so less time! She is a monster when it comes to work and I am glad to have such a supporting friend and a great writer.

Umer Tanveer – I am grateful to my great friend Waqas Ather Saeed, to introduce Umer to me. And since then, there has no stopping for this guy who has a very strong and in your face writing style! His contributions to PakMediaBlog have been tremendous and he has been a big support!

Moazzam Kamran, Fahad Zuberi and Omar Khan – Great friends who helped me enlighten the world by sharing their thoughts and views on PakMediaBlog, Its a BIG Thank You for you guys who, despite any interest in this, helped this blog stand up to what it is today

Hiba Moeen - One of my silent students who applied to write for me through a poster at SZABIST. She has gone beyond the support I would expect from her in actively making people aware of this blog, write so many posts and then also making people to vote for PakMediaBlog. I think that has been a great support and I don’t have enough words to thank you!

Babar Javed – One of my juniors, my friend and an acquaintance whom I had not known until he started writing for PakMediaBlog. He has this technical style of writing that no other writer on PMB has, and he gives me that edge by writing on great topics. His contributions to PakMediaBlog have been great since he has come on board!

Hira Shaikh – One of my first interns for PakMediaBlog, she was so supportive that she didn’t even accept her stipend from me. I still owe her a lot.

Apart from the above all the other contributors that I have have played a tremendous role in making PakMediaBlog known, and I would like to name them specifically:

Agha Zohaib, Arsalan Zafar, Asad Rahman, Asif Afzal, Azra Maqsood, Beenish Qureshi, Bushra Khalid, Faisal Kahn, Fouad Husain, Jawad Usman, Kinza Anwer, Rema Dada, Umair Farooq, Umair Masoom, Umbren Tapal, Usman Riaz, Wajeeha Javed and Waqas Ather Saeed. Thank you everyone for contributing your bits and pieces on PakMediaBlog. All of your contributions have paid off.

Last but not the least, I would like to thank all of the people concerned who helped me win this. I don’t intend to miss out on anyone, but if I do please let me know and I will be more than glad to have your name up here.

My Students:

Hiba Moeen, Salman Rashid, Faiza Hasan, Sadia Haneef, Sana Jalal, Mehr Azeem, Hira Mazhar, Sidra, Najia, Madiha, Faiza Munir, Jibran Jogezai, Zeeshan Khan, Sadia Rashid, Saeed Zaman, Saqib, Moiz, Ahmer, Ali Asad, Javeria, Usman, Alvera, Asra,  and the whole LOT (let me know if I am missing someone out unintentionally).

The Grand Stage!

Finally, I think Rabia Garib, Badar Khushnood and all the team behind the Blog Awards has done a fantastic job by starting this culture of encouraging youngsters to stand up in the social media world and say their heart out! As far as the event was concerned, my opinion would have been that their should not have been more than one panel and a social media triggered activity could have been a good opportunity. But as one of my seniors told me that “Execution of a project is more important… Improvement for perfection can keep coming over the years. Because if we waste too much time trying to do a perfect execution, it might never happen.”

Cheers to all the winners… including PakMediaBlog. I’m excited that finally a new era of recognition in social media has kick-started. My final thank you to all the sponsors and media partners for believing in this event.

  • Adnan Shekhani

@Waiz: Who in your esteemed opinion

    a) was
    b) is
    c) and will be

the best (relevant) writer on PMB?

your site has brilliant articles that are related to the intended content such as CSR, Customer Conversation series and Product Reviews.

But then I feel there are more pointless-irrelevant articles along the lines of Cyclone Phet, Job Opportunities and Rants (against KFC, Insurance and Maxcom for instance)

Voicing of personal opinion should be saved for a personal blog, not a media site trying to make a name for itself.

Pick your best (relevant to the intended content) writer … …

    (its not a hard call)

and make that individual the Editor to weed out all pointless content.

This is my question and suggestion, take it or leave it

  • http://www.saroshwaiz.com Sarosh Waiz

    Mr. Shekhani,

First of all let me clarify that this is not a media site, but a media blog and it is called “PakMediaBlog” for the same reason.

Secondly, I believe in team work rather than selecting particular person for a total job done over the year, as your suggestion of selecting the best (relevant) writer…

Third… I know what is good and bad for my blog, since I have experienced it the hard way over the years.

Fourth, if myself or my writers like to write rants .. we’d do it coz its a blog.. for more details .. a blog definition might help!

Fifth! If you would have been an opinion leader, I might have looked into your suggestions … but unfortunately that is not the case ..

Sixth… I’d rather not even consider your statement of taking it or leaving it .. So there goes your answer .. you can keep it for yourself…

And finally .. can we stop promoting “What Would Tyler Durden Do… ;) .. Cause my audience is not relevant for that ;) .. but if still my audience wants to visit your suggested site .. here is the link directly: http://www.wwtdd.com/

    Cheers!

    Thanks everyone specifically:

Khabbab, Hiba, Shoaib, Ammar, Sadia, Faiza, Maaz, Asif and Adnan for your comments.

  • http://zainad.blogspot.com Zaira Rahman

So I finally read this post :) Congrats Sarosh on achieving this award. It is quite a big thing. All of this required hard work.

Thanks for mentioning me but it wasn’t required man :P I don’t write frequently anymore.

And the above lecture I read, reminds me of similar 2-3 comments we received when we started working on the blog. Preaching and sarcasm go hand in hand :)

    CONGRATS AGAIN!

@Adnan: I used to wonder the same thing when I initially joined, but I figure since it IS a blog, we’d have to write what we had to in order to drive traffic to the site.

Its one of the reasons I wrote the piece on Facebook – b/c it was a hot topic. The decision paid off. Having said that I have decided to reserve my more high end articles of advisory nature for other publications.

Secondly there are no pointless articles on PMB, some of our readers just can’t enjoy a technical article, so our opinion based articles are for their reading pleasure. Again, it brings in some traffic.

Finally I think Zaira and Sarosh can be trusted to run the site in the best way they know how, seeing as they built it from nothing.

I’m proud to be associated with an award winning site and thank Sarosh for the opportunity.

  • Nazish Farooq

I don’t see my name in the list of students. Ouch! :(

Award is not only well deserved but well received without a hint of arrogance. Good work PMB Team.

I am saddened by the departure of Omar, Fz and Babar very very much
