The Lakson Group – Short Profile
One of my pioneer research works in my good old study days was of Lakson Group of Companies. The first time I heard the name “Lakson”, all I could think about was the annoyance of a health hazard cigarette dancing at the very front of my eyes. Obviously back the, all that my tiny winy mind could come up with was of the very name that I heard over and over again (thanks to the media those days) was of Lakson Tobacco company (the ultimate cigarette makers =D). But soon my perspectives broadened, and I got to know a lot about the company itself, the major cause being my research work.
The Lakson Group was founded in the year 1954. Their Product Portfolio – centering around consumer goods and services – consists of detergents & soaps, toothpaste, food products, fast food restaurants, insurance, internet services, software, paper & board, printing, powdered beverages and tea, packaging, publications, surgical instruments, and textiles (fascinating eh?). The corporation is run by the Lakhani brothers among whom Iqbal Ali Lakhani is the Chairman of the Lakson group.
The company itself has a lot to offer. While going through the long list of what the company operates currently took me to a whole new world. I mean, the company itself has engrossed into each and every aspect of the word “business” one can imagine.
Their mission is to build a successful business model that encompasses the needs of their customers, shareholders, and employees, providing a dynamic, responsive organization that ensures a rapid response to opportunity and competition and invest in a balanced portfolio of short, medium, and long-term business opportunities of measured risk. Now this is what I call plan of action (though it’s hard to tell whether they do take all this into action or not). According to a source, “The Lakson Group of Companies generates sales revenues in excess of Rupees 37 billion (US$ 625 million) annually. Group assets exceed Rupees 17 billion (US$ 280 million).”
The best thing about this highly motivated company is their corporate responsibility, which is commendable. The Hasanali Karabhai foundation is a set example for this sole purpose. The Foundation was established to undertake various financial aid programs and charitable contributions. The Foundation owns and operates a multi-storied office building in the center of Karachi and the entire leasing income from this property is being utilized for philanthropic purposes.
I could have provided you all with all the in depth details about this company but then it would be (according to people) tagged as advertising/marketing a company which is so not true. The main idea behind this post is to acknowledge work and to provide substantial information about one of the leading companies of Pakistan, who are playing a major role in the development of our economy.
