The Mother of all Advertisements…!

4 to 5 months back I went to “CHATKHARAY” – a chaat house situated in Defence’ infamous Khadda market. Purpose was to have a quick meal and get back to work but I found out something that made me ponder. Before having my meal I went to the Chatkharay restroom to freshen up. To my utter amusement, I saw an advertisement in the restroom.

Seeing is believing but it was hard for me to believe. Chatkharay has a special electronically operated towel drier in the restroom which could dry a wet towel inside 30 minutes. The towel drier manufacturer had his contact details placed (yes in the restroom) for everyone to see. I didn’t get a chance or had the audacity to enter the female restroom and check whether or not they have that advertisement placed there.

Since women spend more time in the restroom, sometimes twice or thrice times more than men (not an opinion but a fact), towel drier advertisement would’ve been much more impactful in the female restroom. Enough said about females let’s get back to the point

All day long we see advertisement everywhere, we turn on the radio/TV, open up the magazines/newspapers but do we see advertisement in the restroom? This once again has given the marketers and advertisers much to talk about and think over. Restroom is a place where the person has got attention mainly on one or two activities (which I don’t want to disclose since everyone is well aware I am sure). Marketing/advertising the product in that small room where you can get the attention of the person for the best part of 5 minutes is like gold with a capital G.

It’s high time for the advertisement think tanks to find new innovative ways to best attract consumers rather than sticking to the old “DAKIA NOOSI” techniques which we all have endured.

hahahah I remember seeing that on one such trip to Chatkharay. I did find it quite odd but also appreciated it as it was quite well placed :P

Well. This is new in Pakistan – maybe thats why you people are surprised. I am a Pakistani living in Dubai since birth. Here, these kinds of advertisements are very common. Maybe they got the idea from such a place :P
