Telenor CSR Initiative – Khuddar Pakistan

| July 29, 2009 | 4 Comments

We have been talking a lot about CSR recently, and the topic that I am writing about today is no different. We have seen a lot of companies moving towards CSR in the last few months, but the initiative that Telenor has taken recently is a great one in my opinion.

With Khuddar Pakistan, Telenor wants to make a difference in the lives of our fellow persons with disabilities by addressing the challenges they face. As far as I know, Telenor Pakistan is currently the only company in Pakistan who have hired a disability advisor and a disability advisory panel. According to a source:

“Telenor also sponsors assistive technology training labs for persons with disabilities at National Institute of Special Education, National Training Center for Special Persons (NTCSP), and Special Talent Exchange (STEP). Telenor has the first corporate products & services/career website that is fully accessible and their staff participated in the first formal employee volunteerism drive in the corporate sector to work with persons with disabilities.”

We never give importance to the disabled people, and all we do is show our pity towards them. Why don’t we take them as a part of our society? And as normal beings? We don’t have the right to call such people disabled because they are differently abled. Do think about it…

Telenor should approach an organization called “Show you Care” which is working on the same issue. This will help their cause and the SYC as well.
