Garnier Officially Steps Into The Pakistani Market

| August 5, 2009 | 5 Comments

Garnier was created in the year 1904 and is owned by L’Oreal, and since then there is no looking back. This product has been famous for a range of high quality home hair colorants that are easy to use and give good results.

We have been accustomed to use Garnier products because we have been seeing it on the shelves of the local stores that we visit on a day to day basis. We’re also familiar with Garnier ads bombarding in to our local TV screens from the Indian, Arabic and Foreign channels. But now the brand has been officially launched in Pakistan and we can now get the same product through a proper channel rather than labeled as an imported product.

At this point in time, they have only launched the Garnier Hair Color on ATL in Pakistan, but we need to wait and watch to see that what other products come in to our market in the months to come. Garnier has an advantage of being a very well known brand in Pakistan through various sources, and it might not have a problem in terms of awareness. But there are chances that it faces a battle in terms of fighting the grey channel products or the price points.

I’m not sure whether it is the right time to enter the market for Garnier, but the time will tell.

Just want to add a few things about Garnier, yes you are right that Garnier was already there and was known in Pakistan. A research conducted by Garnier’s chosen Agency showed that a lot of pakistani women know about garnier and have been using its brands for a while now. The thing is that it was being distributed in Pakistan already but was also coming in throught black channels so you had the same hair color in different prices because you could get one imported from europe and the same hair color coming in from India that created a mess and made people think what one was the original while the other one was a fake. Garnier entered in Pakistan a year back and this major launch that you see has been up and coming for almost 8 months. Garnier is not only on ATL, first it was launched through some BTL channels and then the TVC came in. It has a lot of other plans cor Color Naturals (the hair color brand) and also plans to launch some of its other brands. As is the case with so many of these FMCG brands, Garnier also is very big on retail and hence they have focused a lot on retail and were already present in the retail before the TVC was aired. Infact the TVC came in three weeks after the retail activity. All I can say is that there is a lot more to come !

Grey channel imports need to be controlled or else this would be just another brand on the shelves passed off as a fake!
